The main group produces competent riders capable of groupwork, riding in confined spaces, bike handling, techniques used in early racing and progressing to race strategies and understanding how to develop into capable riders who may want to race - not everyone wants to race. Although we do throw in some 'interesting' competitive handicap-type training races.
The focus in both groups is also 'having fun'. If the coaches can hear themselves speak during the session something must be wrong! Our sessions can be noisy - as riders have fun and confidence increases.
The two-weekly sessions are designed to deliver rider progression.
Youths & Juniors from all clubs are recommended to attend, improving group skills, racing techniques and confidence. You don't have to be in a club though.
There will be group riding and skills session to equip young riders with both handling and racing techniques. A bike, clothing & helmet check will be carried out prior to the session and 'signing-on' for the list of attendees. The cost for 2 hours coaching is £3 per rider.
A Rider Information & Parental Consent form is required for new riders - if you haven't filled one in before use the link to download the form, print it off, complete it and bring it to the session.
Parents of riders are required to remain on site during sessions please.
There is car parking available for the 'support vehicles' and toilet/changing facilities available in the South Downs Gymnasium (directly in front of you as you enter the site) open 09:00-12:00 attended by HSDC staff. The venue has hosted events such as the 'Mega Meon' sportive and recently the 'Portsdown Classic' National Road Race, which starts the UK road racing season in February each year (previously called PERFs Road Race). The college is cycling friendly and a 'sports focussed' college.
Riders are reminded to remove clipless shoes on entry into the gym area please, to prevent you slipping over and floor damage from shoes - thank you.
Schedule: 09:00-09:15 'Sign on'. 09:15-11:15 Main session. By 11:30 all riders and 'support crew' clear of site
Riders to dress for the weather - Winter e.g. gloves, no knees and elbows 'out', jacket etc.
Any changes due to weather etc. will be conveyed to parents/riders via contact details/sign-on form, or check out the facebook feed below for latest news and notices.
